Across the country, Children's Day is celebrated on the 14th of November. This day also marks the birth anniversary of the first Prime Minister of independent India, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru. He was also called Chacha Nehru by children and he was very fond of them, thus, after his death, his birthday was declared as Children's Day.
He always treated every child from any religion, caste, or colour equally. He believed that every child is unique and talented and called them 'The Future of Nation'.
He also advocated and strongly supported education for all children as he believed that all children must get educated and have a chance to create a prosperous life.
Chacha Nehru invested his time in understanding the perspective of kids from which we all can learn because we tend to ignore our children due to our hectic schedules. He also supported children's rights and fought against social evils such as child abuse. His love and compassion toward children made him loved by all.
He also formulated changes in the education system of the country to encourage more people to send their kids to school. He firmly believed that every child was capable of something, therefore, he opened many schools and institutes to offer children a plethora of options for sharpening their skills and knowledge.
He established some of the most prominent institutions in India such as IITs, IIMs and AIIMS where students receive world-class knowledge. They are now run by the government of India and ensure that all talented students receive the much-needed support they deserve.
Apart from this, the main aim of celebrating children's Day is to remind everyone that we must keep working towards saving the children of our country from social evils such as child abuse. It is also a reminder to put in constant efforts in providing all children with basic amenities such as education, shelter, food and clothes irrespective of their religion, caste, creed, race and colour.
To commemorate the day, institutions related to children and schools organize events where students are gifted toys, candies and other things they like to make them feel special. This day is not observed as a national holiday instead students are invited to the school for celebrations.
In schools, typically, Children's Day begins with a special assembly and speeches highlighting the importance of the day and remembering Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru.
This is then followed by fun and interesting activities such as dancing, singing and other creative activities. Some schools also conduct award ceremonies to honour the students who perform impeccably throughout the year. Lastly, sweets or snacks are distributed to wrap up the day.
